Sales Tips 101 – Supporting your own wellbeing and motivation
Salespeople have agency in shaping their own experience.
Here are five simple steps individual salespeople can take to support their own well-being and motivation:
- Check in with yourself daily. Take a moment each day to reflect on your mental and emotional state. Awareness is the first step toward improvement.
- Set boundaries. Protect time for rest, reflection, and non-work activities. Small habits like avoiding email outside work hours can make a big difference.
- Celebrate your own progress. Don’t wait for external validation. Keep track of small wins and milestones, even if they’re not directly tied to closed revenue.
- Invest in self-development. Whether it’s learning a new skill, improving product knowledge, or building confidence in a new sales motion, personal growth fuels engagement.
- Ask for help. If you’re feeling stretched or stuck, speak up. A simple message to your sales manager, such as “I could use some support thinking through a challenge” or “I’m feeling overwhelmed”, opens the door to support and shared problem-solving.
Managers want their people to succeed, but they can’t support what they can’t see. Proactive, honest communication is a key ingredient in creating a healthy sales team dynamic.
